Cdr. George E. Allison

Cdr. George E. Allison (USN Retired), 88, beloved husband and father, passed away from a hear attack on Wednesday, October 23rd in Hartford Hospital. He was born Oct. 8, 1925 in Carlisle, PA to Clyde and Hazel Allison. On completion of high school he entered the V12 program and attended Missouri State Teachers College, KS and Univ. of Southern Cal. He completed his BA degree from George Washington Univ. in 1959. After flight training at Pensacola and Jacksonville Naval Air Station, his 1st assignment was at Quonset Point, RI. In 1948 he married Jan Blanchard of Newport, VT. George enjoyed an illustrious career as a Naval Aviator, including duty as flight desk officer on attack aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid (1959-61) and executive officer of F8 (Crusader) squadron at NAS Oceana, VA (1962-64). From 1964-68 he served in the National Command Center in the Pentagon as Area Operations Officer and Briefer for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. And in 1968 he served as Naval Rep. to US and NATO Commanders to the Joint Coordination Center, Europe, outside London, England. His last assignment was as Asst. Naval Representative NAVPRO at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. After 31 years he retired from the US Navy. After retirement, he worked for a short time as Office Mgr. for Childrenís Eye Center. George was committed to volunteer work and helping others. He
spent many years volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Samaritanís Suicide Prevention Hot Line, and the early efforts to restore the CT River through the CT River Recapture Project. He was a devout and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 40 years serving on various boards and participating in the church renovation. George was a wonderful father to his 2 daughters, Lauren and Cynthia, and devoted and loving husband to his wife Jan. In his early years he enjoyed tennis, chess, driving his TR3 sports car, and in later years relished his summers at their cottage on Lake Memphremagog in Newport, VT. George is survived by his wife Jan; daughters Lauren Allison Fisher and husband Stephen of West Hartford, CT, and Cynthia Allison Miezis and husband Ron, and their children Aleksandra and Grant Miezis of Olney, MD; sister Mary Hulbert of Dillsburg, PA, and niece Linda Tomkinson, and nephews Rev. David and Daniel Miller and their families. Family and friends may gather Monday, Oct. 28th from 11am-12pm at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20 Meadowlark Rd. & Rte. 30, Vernon.
Funeral services will be at 12:00pm at church on Monday, with a church reception following. A private family interment will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Newport, VT.
